Motorists asked to brush up on work zone safety

Orange barrels and traffic cones seem to flourish when April comes around. It’s the time when drivers find more and more work areas, many of them unexpectedly.

The National Work Zone Awareness Campaign takes place this month every year.

Contractors are on the job today throughout the region. In White Township, a team of Peoples’ Natural Gas Company workers are laying new pipelines in the Clark Street area off North Sixth Street. The worksite team includes traffic control by Flagger Force.

Motorists can encounter ongoing construction on Oakland Avenue or come round the bend and face a much smaller project with little advance notice.

Either way, the safety and lives of flaggers, contractors, and state and municipal road crews are at stake.

April is time to renew work zone awareness – but work zone safety should be a year-round practice.
