There's help for homelessness

Homelessness is closer than you know.

It’s not just vagrants huddling in appliance boxes on steam line grates.

It could be a mom and her kid bundled in blankets overnight in a car. A guy in a sleeping bag with a couple of backpacks at the edge of a community park. Sheds, garages, basements, empty houses ... are not homes.

Homelessness could be a late rent check or an unpaid electric bill away. It could be someone you know. It could be you.

It doesn’t have to be. Help for homelessness also is not far. It’s as near as a call to Indiana County Community Action Program at 724.465.2657 (talk to Homeless Services Case Manager Vicki Allen). It’s as close as a call to 211 for the 24-hour human services help line.

Look around. See a need? Offer help or call for help.
