Pennsylvania Department of Transportation plans to close West Pike near Ben Franklin Road during the final week of July for the replacement of Claypoole Heights Bridge.
Plum Contracting, of Greensburg, will install a new culvert to carry a small waterway under West Pike (Philadelphia Street West Extension, or State Route 4422) between the Colonial Toyota car dealership and Wolf Run Drive at a cost of $632,000.
PennDOT has posted signs advising motorists of the closing. Traffic will be detoured from the area from 7 p.m. Sunday, July 24, to 7 p.m. Sunday, July 31, according to a state news release.
To detour, westbound traffic should follow Ben Franklin Road South and Indian Springs Road (State Route 4422) to the intersection with Oakland Avenue (State Route 286), turn right and travel past SouthTowne Plaza (the Walmart center) to U.S. Route 422 at the Oakland Avenue interchange, then travel east on the Route 422 Bypass to the Philadelphia Street exit.
Eastbound traffic should follow the Route 422 Bypass to the Oakland Avenue (Route 286) exit, turn left to pass SouthTowne Plaza (Walmart), proceed to the intersection with Indian Springs Road (State Route 4422), then turn left and travel through Ben Franklin Road South to reach Philadelphia Street.
Plum Contracting is expected to finish the culvert installation and resurfacing of West Pike by the end of August.
